The mission of Friends of High Country State Parks is to enhance and perpetuate the High Country State Parks and State Natural Areas for the enjoyment and benefit of all the state’s people.

The Friends of High Country State Parks is dedicated to the expansion and preservation of state parks in the NC High Country and to the protection of park funding that has permitted these parks to become valuable assets to the local economy and community.

40TH ANNUAL NEW RIVER CANOE RACE

The 40th Annual New River Canoe Race will take place on 
June 4th at 9 am. 

​Begun in 1980, all proceeds from the event go to support Friends of High Country State Parks’ mission to support our state parks.

The event will begin at Zaloo’s Canoes in Jefferson, NC  and travel five miles to the Wagoner Road Access of the New River State Park. This route is calm with no white water.
